September 21, 2024 — Transcarpathia, Ukraine

Peace Day in
Transcarpathia.

On the International Day of Peace, the UN Youth Delegate Programme of Hungary traveled to Kárpátalja to spend the day with young people whose lives have been disrupted by war — playing games, sharing stories, and creating art together.

The Visit

Meeting face
to face.

The UN Youth Delegate Programme of Hungary traveled to Transcarpathia (Kárpátalja) on September 21, 2024 — the International Day of Peace.

They spent the day with young Ukrainians whose daily lives have been shaped by the war. Through games, entertainment, and creative workshops, they built connections that went beyond language and borders.

The highlight of the visit was a painting workshop where both groups worked side by side, painting on canvases and canvas bags — creating art that would later travel to the world stage.

Workshop

Creating art
for peace.

Together with the local youth, the team painted on canvases and canvas bags. The motifs spoke of hope — doves, sunflowers, Ukrainian flags, and the word “Béke” (peace in Hungarian). These artworks would later be exhibited at the United Nations in New York.
